Getting Started with BrightSpots

Your step-by-step guide to beginning ABA services 🌱

We know starting therapy can feel overwhelming. That's why we've made the process as simple and supportive as possible. Here's exactly what to expect when you choose BrightSpots for your child's ABA therapy.

1

Reach Out to Us

The first step is the easiestβ€”just contact us! You can call, email, or fill out our contact form on the website.

When You Contact Us, We'll Ask About:

  • Your child's name and age
  • Whether your child has a diagnosis
  • Your insurance information (Louisiana Medicaid)
  • Your main concerns and what you hope to achieve
  • Best times to reach you
Don't have all the information? That's okay! Just reach out and we'll guide you through what we need.
⏱ Timeline: We typically respond within 24 hours on business days.
2

Insurance Verification & Authorization

We handle all the insurance paperwork for you! Once you decide to move forward, we'll verify your benefits and submit for authorization.

What We Need From You:

  • Copy of your child's Medicaid card (UHC, LHCC, or Healthy Blue)
  • Copy of diagnosis from a psychologist, developmental pediatrician, or psychiatrist
  • Any previous therapy reports or evaluations (if available)
  • Completed intake paperwork
Need a diagnosis? If your child doesn't have a formal diagnosis yet, we can guide you to providers who can conduct evaluations.
⏱ Timeline: Insurance authorization typically takes 1–2 weeks, though it can vary by plan.
3

Initial Assessment

Once insurance authorizes services, our BCBA will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your child's current skills and needs.

The Assessment Includes:

  • Direct observation and interaction with your child
  • Parent interview about your child's strengths and challenges
  • Standardized assessments of language, social, and daily living skills
  • Discussion of your priorities and family goals
  • Behavior analysis to understand any challenging behaviors

Based on this assessment, our BCBA will develop an individualized treatment plan with specific, measurable goals for your child.

⏱ Timeline: Initial assessment typically takes 2–3 sessions over 1–2 weeks.
4

Meet Your Child's Therapy Team

You'll be introduced to your child's BCBA β€” the most important person in your child's treatment. The BCBA oversees all aspects of your child's therapy, designs the individualized treatment plan, and is responsible for your child's clinical progress. The RLT works directly with your child during sessions under the BCBA's supervision and direction.

Your Team Includes:

  • BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst): Oversees all therapy, creates and updates the treatment plan, supervises the RLT, tracks clinical progress, and is your primary point of contact for your child's care
  • RLT (Registered Line Technician): Delivers direct one-on-one therapy sessions with your child under the BCBA's supervision and guidance
  • You (Parent): An essential partner in your child's success!
Your BCBA is your go-to: Any questions or concerns about your child's therapy, progress, or goals should always go directly to the BCBA.
5

Begin Therapy Sessions!

Now the real work beginsβ€”and we're here to support you every step of the way.

What to Expect:

  • Initial focus on building rapport and getting to know your child
  • Introduction of positive reinforcement procedures tailored to your child
  • Regular data collection to track progress
  • Ongoing adjustments based on your child's response
The first few sessions: It's normal for children to need time to adjust. We take a patient, child-led approach to building trust and cooperation.
6

Ongoing Support & Progress Monitoring

ABA therapy is a collaborative, ongoing process. We're committed to keeping you informed and involved.

You'll Receive:

  • Progress Updates: Regular reports showing your child's data and goal progress
  • Parent Training: Learn strategies to support your child at home
  • BCBA Availability: Your BCBA is available anytime by phone or text, and can schedule a meeting whenever needed to discuss your child's progress, goals, or any concerns
  • Open Communication: Updates after sessions and anytime you have questions

As your child makes progress, we'll update goals, fade support, and work toward greater independence.
